Atelier Xi Designs the Interconnected Library and Tea Rooms
Amy Duong — February 15, 2024 — Art & Design
Chinese architecture studio Atelier Xi creates a uniquely interconnected building comprised of five angular volumes. This functions as a library and tea-tasting room on an ice-chrysanthemum plantation location in Xiuwu China. The different volumes are meant to come together and form a mini village as it is inspired by the shape of the local village homes and the petals on a chrysanthemum flower.
The studio speaks about the design process and thought behind it, stating "The tension between the building's soft interior and its angular exterior brings about a distinctive experiential quality shifting from day to night. In daylight, the white gable walls evoke the image of a northern village settlement. While at night, the silhouette dissolves into the darkness, emphasizing the soft interior space and offering dreamlike warmth."
