Fire-grilled chicken restaurant chain El Pollo Loco is setting itself apart as the first national restaurant company to test door-to-backyard drone delivery with its new Air Loco Drone Delivery service. The pilot program is launching with Tel Aviv-based drone startup Flytrex, which manufactures and operates automated drones. These drones operate at 32 mph, without the interference of traffic, and they use a wire mechanism to slowly lower food from high up in the air.
To make sure that deliveries arrive safely, the Air Loco drone is outfitted with a secure delivery box—Thermo-to-Go packaging. To kick off the pilot program, a handful of Loco Rewards members in Southern California will be treated to the first flights, which promises to be an experience that's not only convenient but entertaining.
