The Smurfs Invade the Big Screen & the Real World
Omar Yusuf — July 27, 2011 — Fashion
Due for release at the end of July, the 2011 Smurfs movie intends to revive public interest in the 50-year-old fantasy world by relocating the enchanting village away from the forest and into the comparative modernity of New York. Yet, Hollywood isn't the only place the Smurfs are being reinvented -- from the runway to the roadway, fans have managed to incorporate Smurfish aesthetic into everything!
Blue is the new black and everyone -- including Katy Perry -- knows it. Furniture, fashion and photography are just a few fields which have come to embrace the placid, calming color we all associated with Smurfs.
Although it's likely that Columbia Pictures' upcoming film is responsible for the sudden groundswell of Smurf support, there's always been a cultural undercurrent devoted to the small, blue villagers, but recently, it's gone in new directions.
