From Edible Sea Glass to Street Food-Inspired Candies
Ever since Gene Wilder immortalized Roald Dahl's fantastical eponymous character in the 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' film, quirky candy has been a draw for confection lovers everywhere. There's something playful, childish, and freeing about inventing bizarre, interesting or amazing sweets that captivate both kids and adults alike.
That said, though candy is superficially for kids, there are nonetheless certain treats more clearly targeted toward nostalgic adults than children. One would be pretty hard-pressed to find a kid who has any inclination for vegan licorice candies, for example. And many quirky candy options riff on a product that children can't even legally consume: alcohol. Be it carbonated prosecco candies, mulled wine gummies, or homemade spiked suckers, alcoholic candies are the ultimate blend of adult and childish indulgence.
But, then again, there are quirky candy choices that don't easily apply to any age group -- beefy cheese candies are a prime culprit in this category.
