An Instrumental Tribute to Les Paul
Rose Nazarali — August 14, 2009 — Pop Culture
Les Paul, the innovative guitarist who invented the electric guitar and multi-track recordings, passed away yesterday, leaving the music industry in mourning.
To celebrate Les Paul’s legacy, I have gathered a collection of rockin’ guitars (and guitar-inspired innovations) that hopefully, Les Paul would be proud of.
Implications - Though the guitar can easily be called a simple musical instrument, it has surpassed its initial purpose and now serves as a pop cultural symbol of all things related to rock'n'roll. This is not the first time this can be observed in pop culture, and is achieved through the actual, physical invention's use beyond its initial function. Incorporating fashion into a piece is an easy way to give it a double meaning that selfcentric consumers will enjoy.
