These Flying Object Art Installations Seem to Defy Gravity
Laura McQuarrie — June 3, 2013 — Art & Design
These illusory flying object installations create a surreal effect that seems to defy gravity and make time seem as if it is standing still.
By suspending multiples of the same object, ordinary items become part of a new sculpture that shape the mood of the space. Whether the strings that hold the objects up are visible or not, the effect is arresting. Damian Oretga uses this concept to create the illusion that a car is are exploding, with all of its parts are suspended throughout the interior and caught as if it is being viewed in freeze-frame.
These still moments create contemplative spaces that are a stark contrast to fast-paced and busy lifestyles, serving as a reminder to pause every once in a while.
