From Illusory Stone Comforters to LEGO-Like Slippers
Laura McQuarrie — February 27, 2014 — Art & Design
These deceptively soft home decor objects look like they are made out of solid brick, marble, concrete and other hard surfaces that would be unpleasant to sit or lay on. However, they are only photo-realistic prints on fabric that just give the appearance of being uncomfortable. These illusory designs are appearing on the fabric of chairs, pillows and bedsheets, making them look firmer than they are in reality.
Some of these patterns have even been translated into fashions, that would turn people into walking marble slabs or monolithic brick walls if they were to wear head-to-toe suits of these printed fabrics, as seen in the 2012 Fall/Winter menswear collection by Jean Paul Gaultier and marble-print garments by Shallowww.
