Vinyl is everywhere. Vinyl is a type of plastic made from ethylene and chlorine. The combination is Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin, and is commonly called ‘vinyl’ for short. It’s mostly made of elements from common salt, so it is easier on the environment than some materials. Still, 43% of its make-up is petroleum-based, so it’s not the ‘perfect’ material.
First invented in 1920 when "living better through chemistry" was the motto of the day, scientists wanted a cost-effective, durable material from which to make everyday products. It can be recycled.
Many of the Trend Hunter finds gathered here are made of recycled or re-purposed vinyl, all of them are interesting and some are pure fun.
