The recognizable Balenciaga Triple S sneakers have received an eco-friendly overhaul thanks to a partnership with the QWSTION fashion brand that will see the footwear style crafted with Bananatex fabric.
The sneakers maintain the chunky silhouette of the original, but see the main body crafted with the durable, canvas-like Bananatex that's made from Abacá banana plants sourced from the Philippine highlands. The material doesn't require fertilizer, extra water or pesticides to grow and promotes reforestation in areas previously eroded by palm plantations.
QWSTION and Bananatex Co-Founder Hannes Schoenegger spoke on the new Balenciaga Triple S sneakers saying, "This is big news! Balenciaga and Bananatex! The iconic Triple S made with our 100% plant-based, next-gen fabric, available in two colors. Bravo to everyone involved in this project, we are looking forward to many more in the future!”
