Shake Shack is looking to make its operations a little more eco-friendly by testing out a cleaner fry oil called Zero Acre oil.
The new fry oil test is part of a partnership between Shake Shack and Zero Acre Farms, which is a company that aims to make cooking oil that's better for people and the planet. With this goal in mind, Zero Acre Farms created a cooking oil made from rain-fed sugarcane, which is a much more sustainable and versatile oil that still works at high heat.
Zero Acre Farms' Zero Acre oil will first be tested at two of Shake Shack's New York City locations: Hudson Yards and Battery Park City. As part of the pilot, several of the brand's signature items, including its Crinkle Cut Fries and Chicken Bites, will be fried in Zero Acre oil instead of soybean oil.
