Nicholas Szczepaniak Architects recently completed the Union Wharf Rooftop Dwelling -- an apartment built in the conservatory on the rooftop of an old factory building in London, England.
Inspired by the passing of canal boats, the space was created with timber and steel. The design team decided to retain as much of the building's original character as possible by keeping the concrete soffit exposed and ash-lined interior. The large sliding doors in the main living room open out to a terrace that overlooks the Regents Canal. The space has an open floorplan, with textured sliding glass partitions to separate the individual spaces. The design team added wooden cabinets to add some warmth to the minimalist aesthetic.
The Union Wharf Rooftop Dwelling takes a minimal and modern twist on classic British design style from the 1900s.
