Forest-Friendly Concrete Amphitheaters

1+1>2 Architects' Theater in Vietnam is Community-Centric

This theater in Vietnam is composed of a bamboo framework, concrete seating and a thatched roof. Dubbed the 'Chieng Yen Community House,' the entertainment venue is considered to be "a local gathering place and [a] tourist attraction."

The amphitheater is tucked within "a dense, old-growth forest." Its silhouette seamlessly fits into the narrative of the landscape, while the roof is built with dry vegetation. 1+1>2 Architects took inspiration from two sources. One was tied to the "shape of an ethnic headdress" that is common within the culture, while the second is tied to the architectural aesthetic of the region's houses.

The theater in Vietnam has a definite majestic presence that is communicated through the expertly crafted, functional and aesthetically pleasing layout.
