According to the UK youth program Team v, one in ten seniors in the UK is affected by loneliness and isolation and about 50 percent of them say that TV is their only form of company.
Team v, an organization of youth volunteers ages 18 to 25 who participate in community and charity initiatives, has launched this new campaign to reduce loneliness and isolation among the elderly. It is setting out to connect with older people through social events and different projects -- including video, social media and photography -- that will help to raise awareness of the issue. Team v's plan is to first talk with elderly people to brainstorm new ideas to combat loneliness, and then bring people together through social events like bingo, dinner, arts and crafts and book clubs, among other activities. Finally, Team v will set out to raise awareness through school assemblies, exhibitions and more.
