Social Entrepreneurship Publications

SEE Change Magazine is a First for Canada

As Canada’s first social enterprise and social entrepreneurship publication, SEE Change Magazine is an online quarterly magazine that aims to raise awareness about the emerging business movement, as well as inspire and educate those who are already a part of this ever-growing sector.

According to SEE Change’s website, their vision is "for social enterprise to become an accepted standard for business practice in our society, and for all people to benefit from the work they participate in, and the products and services they purchase."

Founded in 2009 by non-profit sector researchers and journalists Elisa Birnbaum and Nicole Zummach, the first official issue was published in February of 2010. Birnbaum, Co-Founder and President, has been published in many prestigious Canadian publications including the Globe & Mail, Profit Magazine and the National Post. Zummach, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief, worked for eight years as the editor-in-chief of CharityVillage.com, which is a Canadian website dedicated to the non-profit sector.

Interestingly, because of the fact that there is no one strict definition of this business movement, SEE Change also offers up its own broad definitions of what social enterprise and what social entrepreneur are, in order to increase inclusivity.

SEE Change’s content is varied and includes articles, an analytical blog, interviews, success stories, how-tos, photograph essays, book reviews and film reviews. If you’re interested in social entrepreneurship as a whole, or even only certain aspects, there really is something in this well-written publication for everyone. Even though SEE Change is Toronto-based, the magazine content is undoubtedly global and focuses on social innovation wherever it turns up.

SEE Change is a young publication with endless potential for creating positive social change.
