Romantic Rural-Urban Hybrid Restaurants

Höst is a Charming Fusion of City & Country Elements

Restaurant Höst—the brainchild of MENU and Norm Architects – is an architectural hybrid of rural and urban elements for a modern yet rustic restaurant. The architects collaborated with the Copenhagen-based restaurant brand Cofoco to turn this rural-urban design into a reality. I’m not sure if this design concept is supposed to be interpreted as rurally urban, or urbanely rural; but either way, it represents consolidation of modern and nostalgic components.

The simplistic design was awarded with the highest prize at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in 2013. The award directors spoke of the design by saying, "Höst is an embodiment of the clash between romanticism and modernity -- a space of multiple stories intertwining and correlating to form an inspirational and aesthetic universe for all senses." The finished product features inviting wooden tables and ceiling panels matched with steel chairs and industrial-looking lamps for a contemporary twist. The designers also created simplistic tableware to complete the look.
