Rust Architects, an Israeli design and architecture firm, has recently reorganised an apartment layout in Tel Aviv in order to maximize the natural light that the residence receives over the course of a day. The result is a unique, halved layout that directs natural light towards specific rooms and areas as the sun moves across the sky.
The key to Rust Architects' redesign is the use of an exterior balcony. In order to focus as much light in specific areas as possible, the firm split the apartment into two distinct interior spaces that aren't directly connected to one another. In order to move between those spaces, the residents can use the apartment's exterior balcony, which functions as a workspace, a storage area, and a dining area.
