Platform9, a leading multi-cloud Kubernetes as a service company, has joined Intel's 'Open Retail Initiative (ORI), launching a cloud-based store solution for retail management. The new IoT-based platform aims to help both retailer owners and consumers by accelerating the roll-out of new store applications while improving digital experiences for shoppers.
In simple terms, Platform9's new retail solution works to create a single, cloud-based infrastructure stack from which business owners and retail managers can centrally control store IT. What this means is that retailers can now run a converged infrastructure stack while in-store, allowing them to operate their own "mini-cloud" system that can be connected to a shared global cloud consisting of 1000s of other stores.
"As a pilot for our retail solution, Platform9 helped one of the world's largest coffee chains use DevOps automation and CI/CD tool chains to centrally and automatically deploy applications such as order management, video surveillance, and music delivery to thousands of their coffee stores," said Sirish Raghuram, CEO of Platform9.
