Kentucky Fried Chicken is launching a soy-chicken burger: the Classic Vegetarian Sandwich! PETA has been fighting KFC for decades about the unethical treatment of chickens used in their greasy fast food products, and finally it looks like their efforts are paying off... at least in Canada.
The fake chicken patty is going to be available at almost half of Canada's KFC locations.
"The company agreed to a historic new animal welfare plan that will dramatically improve the lives and deaths of the chickens killed for its restaurants." The new veggie sandwich was part of that agreement.
PETA2 sent out a newsletter today asking all those against Kentucky Fried Cruelty to support the decision with positive reinforcement!
"We need every kind person to go and buy a Classic Vegetarian Sandwich (or a bag full) to create a demand for mainstream vegetarian foods and show KFC and other restaurants that humane options are the way to go," the e-newsletter read. "The sandwich is already vegetarian and can easily be made vegan by ordering it in a wrap without mayo!"
Best of all, they have a "buy-one-get-one-free" promo running to kick off the product! It can be printed from the PETA2 site and is valid until September.
Pamela Anderson will be happy! The Canadian-born actress is a strict vegetarian, animal rights activist and face of PETA. She found out recently that she actually supported KFC by making a guest appearance on Big Brother Australia, a TV show that's actually sponsored by the junk food chain! To make up for it, she visiting KFC downunder to protest.
