Scotland has recently become the first country in the world to offer its citizens free menstrual products as a result of the new Period Products Act. Starting on Aug 15, 2022, Scotland will be establishing councils and enlisting educational institutions to offer free period products for those in need. Products will be distributed through the PickupMyPeriod app, which was launched at the beginning of 2022 by Hey Girls with the help of government officials.
Based on the user's GPS position or a postcode supplied, the PickupMyPeriod App guides users to the closest place where free period goods are offered. It provides information on the sort of products available, the location of the products, and allows users to filter by product type.
Celia Hodson, the founder of Hey Girls, commented: "The Period Product Act shows Scotland is leading the way in recognizing that period products are not a luxury and should be freely available to all. Through our PickupMyPeriod app, we work to ensure no one in Scotland is left without access to period products and are well on the way to achieving that with more than 1,000 locations highlighted to users."
