Elevated on stilts, the interconnected cylindrical volumes that make up Paarman Treehouse offer a stunning, panoramic view of the forest that surrounds the Cape Town retreat. Though glass features heavily in its design, the combination of cylinders and timber slats that cover the exterior of the building help it to blend in to the environment, reducing its aesthetic impact.
Paarman Treehouse was designed by Mala Vorster, a local Cape Town architecture studio. The building was placed on stilts not only to mimic the appearance of the trees in the area, but also to elevate the home so that the views from inside are as spectacular as possible. It's built on the highest portion of a slope for the same reason. Residents can enter the house via a swirling staircase underneath the abode.
