Jule Waibel is an extremely talented graduate of the Royal College of Art who challenged herself to make an origami dress collection for her final project, using fabric instead of paper. Previously, Waibel has made paper fashion designs, but as she notes, "It's a dress, so it's a shame if you can't sit on a chair or if you get slightly bruised wearing it," which is what inspired her to take this collection 'From Paper to Reality.'
For this series, Waibel opted for chiffon, which allowed her to make pleats that will hold their shape, as well as expand and collapse when they are required to move with the wearer's body. Despite being quite a soft fabric, the chiffon is able to hold a number of origami-like geometric forms quite beautifully.
