We often don't think much about museum foyers, however, the space harbors many opportunities for visitor engagement. Recognizing this is a recent project by Studio Besau-Marguerre. It embarked on a four-and-a-half-month project of renovating the foyer of Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G).
The heart of the redesign is a clear guidance system that ensures the safety and well-being of guests while enhancing their overall experience. The space is adorned with vibrant colors and patterns, adding visual intrigue to the atmosphere that may also uplift one's mood. While the reception area is just within sight upon entering, the "thoughtfully positioned" cloakrooms and bright yellow lockers "respect the logical steps of a museum."
As such, MK&G's museum foyer is sure to provide a welcoming environment and ground visitors upon entering.
