Mountainous Landmark Projections

Tokyo is Using Technology to Replicate Mount Fuji in Japan

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Tokyo Midtown is creating a special-edition installation called 'Fuji-san: Japan, the Beautiful Garden' that will feature a replica of Mount Fuji in Japan.

The towering five-meter installation uses projection mapping technology to recreate the iconic look of the tourist destination and historic site in Japan, making it possible for those in the heart of Tokyo to experience the splendor of the mountain, perhaps not in its full size and glory, but at least without having to arrange travel further southwest.

In recent years, projection mapping technology has offered a fun, engaging and immersive way for the sides of urban buildings, bridges and other parts of cityscapes to be transformed into immersive, fantastical scenes. In this example, tourists in Japan will be drawn to the convenience and novelty of seeing this replica with their own eyes.
