Palermo Viejo is a small historic urban space in Buenos Aires that is undergoing a steady transformation into a popular and modern neighborhood. Local design studio Alonso & Crippa undertake a renovation process of a two-storey brick building, transforming it into a clean, minimalist and contemporary residence.
The project is called PH Thames, and it is just an example of how cities are aggregates of modern neighborhoods. From arty districts to bourgeois communal spaces, Alonso & Crippa's work on the historic house is an example of how the introduction of shops, restaurants and offices can change an urban area. Prior to Palermo Viejo's transformation into a modern neighborhood, the space was residential. Now, people are occupying the second floors of the historic houses to make room for commercial development.
