A handful of forward-thinking fashion brands experimented with unconventional runway shows for New York Fashion Week and for its London Fashion Week show, Central Saint Martins hosted a first-of-its-kind mixed-reality catwalk experience.
During the event, 10 front row attendees sported Magic Leap’s One headsets, which added new dimensions to the fashion show with animated lighting bolts, smiling tiger heads and laughing skulls. For those not wearing a headset, screens were provided to give all event attendees a sense of the mixed-reality experience. Due to the tech-heavy requirements of the show, the Central Saint Martins event was powered by Three Mobile’s 5G technology, thanks to a new partnership between the university and the telecommunications provider.
According to designer Gerrit Jacob, mixed-reality has a place beyond the runway and could potentially be used in shops or on the streets to creatively present clothes.
