Cherem Arquitectos is a Mexican design firm that drew inspiration for the Casa Candelaria from traditional hacienda plantations to create a liveable home. The repurposing of the factory space offers a new way to utilize open-concept layouts in residence design.
The Casa Candelaria is a one level, open-concept space that draws inspiration from classic Mexican factories abundant in the area. Cherem Arquitectos created the space using a 1,500-square feet layout complete with building materials that were often use to create haciendas. This includes using the natural soil underneath the building to create the walls and add pigmentation that reflects the landscape. The soil also provides insulation in colder months. Wood is used throughout the design in both the floor and window shutters, while concrete roofing provides stability as well as an industrial feel.
