Kalavapriikki Partners with Hailia Nordic to Launch Pulled Rainbow Trout

Kalavapriikki, a seafood producer based in Kuopio, Finland, has partnered with food-tech company Hailia Nordic to launch a pulled rainbow trout product. This product will be available exclusively through Finnish retail giant S Group. The collaboration is part of a more significant effort to enhance sustainability in the seafood industry by reducing waste and utilizing byproducts more effectively.

The pulled rainbow trout is created from fish-filleting sidestreams, typically underutilized and often repurposed for lower-value applications such as aquafeed or fish oil production. By transforming these sidestreams into a high-quality, consumer-ready product, Kalavapriikki and Hailia Nordic are addressing the issue of food waste while introducing a new, sustainable protein source to the market.

"Hailia’s ambition is to establish similar partnerships internationally and to license its unique technology to fish processing companies," said Hailia CEO Michaela Lindström.
