Hillary Clinton is in my dream position: Oscar de la Renta is desperate to design a body-flattering, show-stopping gown for her!
De la Renta said he’s trying to get her to wear something more revealing, a dress that accentuates what Barbara Walters called on her show, Clinton’s "nice bosom."
While it’s unlikely he got his way in terms of Clinton baring lots of skin, De la Renta did design "the most beautiful royal blue dress" for the swearing-in on the 20th. He also designed her couture for the inaugural ball, "a beautiful pink and gray embroidered with silver and gold."
Walters had de la Renta on her radio show, on which the fashion designer gushes, "I love Hillary," but says he’s also not afraid to give her tips on what she’s doing wrong.
"I try to advise her the best I can, you know, we always have a big, huge fight about - - you know, Hillary, in a sense, is sort of very prudish about the type of clothes she likes to wear and you know from the waist up she really looks great."
It’s refreshing to see that even Hillary Clinton has body image complexes.
"She feels very uncomfortable about wearing revealing kind[s] of cloths and so we are always fighting about the neckline. I do remember one time, we were at a party at the Metropolitan Museum and she was wearing, for the first time, something very, very open and then all of sudden she arrived with a big, huge shawl over her shoulder. And I kept pulling the shawl down and [she] kept pulling it up because she felt uncomfortable about showing her shoulders."
Since no sketches have been released yet, the gallery shows a sampling of some of Oscar de la Renta’s most beautiful looks from his Spring/Summer 2009 show as well as a few from his Resort collection.
