PetSmart Launched In-Store Recycling for Pet Food Bags with TerraCycle

Oftentimes, pet food packaging cannot be accepted through curbside recycling programs and is thrown away rather than recycled, and PetSmart teamed up with TerraCycle to offer an in-store recycling program to consumers.

This in-store recycling program for empty pet food, treat and cat litter bags made from flexible plastic will help to keep packaging out of landfills, all while supporting material reuse.

With the pilot PetSmart Pet Food & Treat Bags Free Recycling Program at PetSmart stores in Arizona and New Jersey, consumers can drop off empty pet food, treat and litter bags in designated recycling bins at select locations. TerraCycle will take care of shredding, cleaning and transforming the pet product bags at its material recovery facilities to support the creation of raw material for new recycled products.
