Älmhult, Sweden is set to be home to a new IKEA Museum that will show off 70 years of Swedish design. This museum designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and Uulas Arkitekter is stationed in the building where the first IKEA store was set up.
At the IKEA Museum, there will be a permanent exhibition of more than 20,000 pieces from the company, as well as a temporary exhibition space, a restaurant, shop and educational stations. As well as showcasing the evolution of IKEA designs over the years, the museum will also expose the people behind the furniture designs, as well as lessons and mistakes learned by the innovators over time.
Some of the most iconic products from the company, such as the Billy bookshelf and the Klippan sofa have their own installations dedicated to them.
