MIR architectes and Nicolas Hugoo designed a wooden house extension for an existing two-story home in Paris. The extension provides more living space, natural light and an eye-catching image from the outside.
The use of wood was driven by the homes deteriorating foundation and poor build quality in hopes that it would be a light enough load to add on top. Inside the extension is a staircase that leads to a mezzanine and living area. A skylight exposes the roof and and a large window allows plenty of natural light to flood the extension. Following planning regulations, the architects needed to have the required interior volume and a balanced relationship with the surrounding buildings.
This is a beautiful way to extend your home, especially if you have any worries about the preexisting structure and how it might hold up to more weight.
