This Collaborative IPA Uses An Experimental Hop For An Added Twist

A pair of truly beloved San Diego-based breweries have teamed up to create 'The Marine,' a West Coast Double IPA that combines the respective expertise of Coronado Brewing and Societe Brewing.

This particular West Coast Double IPA makes use of a trident of hops, namely of the Simcoe, Citra and El dorado varieties. This unabashedly bold combination of hops makes for a flavor profile that is at once complex and satisfying, with drinkers able to identify arboreal notes as well as hints of citrus and fruit. Meanwhile, this beer also makes the use of an experimental hop called HBC 638 very late in the process, with the end result being an additional dose of juicy hop flavor.

Coming in at eight percent ABV, this brew is well and truly targeted towards lovers of strong IPAs, and speaks to the utility of breweries coming together to combine their philosophies and techniques to create something truly special.
