Colossal Magazine Collages

Geoffrey Farmer Crafts an Epic Diorama with Five Decades Worth of Pages

No one is going to fault Geoffrey Farmer for lack of effort after witnessing his gigantic collage entitled ‘Leaves of Grass.’ With a title borrowed for Walt Whitman’s most famous work, Farmer’s creation is similarly significant in that he used over five decades worth of Life Magazine issues in order to create this historically rich diorama. Famous political figures, actors, freedom fighters and more are readily identifiable even while quickly skimming through portions of his creation.

Geoffrey Farmer’s ‘Leaves of Grass’ is currently being exhibited at the Documenta 13 art exhibit in Kassel. The piece spans several table lengths and is arranged in a visually gripping manner evocative of Farmer’s previous works. My favorite inclusion in the collage has to be the various vintage soup and food ads.
