Simplified Health Symbols

The USDA MyPlate Graphic Replaces Ancient Food Pyramid

I never paid much attention to the USDA Food Pyramid to encourage me to eat healthy, but MyPlate might change that. Who could figure out all those different levels? Did the big bottom mean I could eat more of that food group and avoid a big bottom? Or did that little pointy triangle at the top mean that was the best food ever? Just too complicated for my little pea brain.

The USDA has improved my chances for change. MyPlate is a new graphic depiction that even rug rats can figure out. Half my plate should be fruits and veggies. I can have some bread and some meat and a little dairy too. But the proportions are easily identifiable and simple to grasp.

Here's what First Lady Michelle Obama said about MyPlate: "This is a quick, simple reminder for all of us to be more mindful of the foods that we’re eating."

The head food dude said the graphic symbol being pushed by the USDA is part of a healthy dose of healthy marketing. Even I can do that, but the MyPlate graphic logo will remind me that Hostess Ding Dongs should not be part of my daily diet.
