Unicef's Food Photos Save Lives Campaign Shares on Food Shortages

Food photos have become so notoriously shared online that it's even caused some restaurants to ban them from being taken in the first place. Although it's easy to shake your head at yet another photo of someone's lunch or dinner, the Food Photos Save Lives campaign by Unicef New Zealand turns the phenomenon into something positive.

Millions of pictures of food are uploaded to social media daily, but there are also millions of people that go hungry each day too. To bring awareness to this, Unicef took to Instagram and made accounts to represent real children in need from all over the world. Now, when another Instagram user tagged their photos with something like #food or #yum, the photos would receive an unusually high amount of likes from the Unicef child profiles. Each account provided a link where users could make a contribution to make sure these kids get fed.
