A new fire-resistant building adorns one of British Columbia's many mountainscapes. Designed by Omar Gandhi Architect, the structure acts as a mountaintop retreat and it overlooks the Okanagan Lake.
The project is titled Mountain Beetle and the fire-resistant building has an interesting, angular structure. Omar Gandhi Architect focused on making the development weatherproof as the site sees annual wildfires and the firm needed to "take certain precautions in the design of the home."
Weathering steel envelopes the fire-resistant building like a protective shell that will fend off the unpredictable behaviors of mountainous climates—it is not just fire but also extreme heat, copious amounts of snow, and strong winds in high altitudes. The structure is also elevated and deep overhangs add another layer of protection from snow and rain.
