French architect Vincent Callebaut has designed multi-tiered farms that he dubs Farmscrapers for the Chinese city of Shenzhen. The Farmscrapers are designed to help cut emissions in China and to make the country's cities a greener place. Callebaut envisions six Farmscrapers in Shenzhen, with each one growing crops and recycling solid and liquid waste.
Being able to grow crops within a city like Shenzhen would mean that crops wouldn't have to be trucked in from the countryside. Liquid and solid waste and organic material could also be recycled using the Farmscrapers, with the waste being turned into plant food. In addition to cutting emissions, these eco skyscrapers would bring a touch of functional greenery to the Chinese city of 10.3 million. The Farmscrapers are just a concept now, but it's not out of the realm of possibility to think that China would at least consider a design such as this.
