‘Contrast’ is an experimental lighting series designed by Julien Carretero for the Victor Hunt Gallery. The collection is metal-based, with Carretero examining and playing with materials such as bronze, copper and steel. Carretero manipulates these materials – namely industrial pipes -- to achieve unusual lighting formations.
In one piece, Carretero uses a laser to reveal and illuminate the inside of these industrial pipes. Not only is this a fantastic light construction, it also juxtaposes the interior and exterior of the pipe (staying true to the collections title ‘Contrast’). These hollowed-out pipes are surprisingly beautiful once Carretero is finished with them. The entire collection is absolutely tremendous and I encourage those who are interested in the repurposing of raw materials to check it out.
