Built on the waterside in Beijing, this housing complex from UNStudios incorporates unique curved walls and whimsical wooded pathways to create harmony between private dwellings and communal spaces.
The goal of the project, aptly named 'Fairyland' Guorui, was to create as much unity as possible between the beautiful outdoor environment of the complex and the villas it houses. To this end, the architect used curved walls and creative elevations to introduce the organic, non-linear shapes of nature into the buildings themselves. The facades of Fairyland's villas are made of clay, which further helps them blend into their natural surroundings. Though all are built with the same elegant curved walls, the compound features different configurations of villas, with varying combinations of private and family spaces, balconies, terraces and roof-top gardens.
