Cultural Civic Center by Exit Architects Transforms Jail into a Haven

EXIT Architects converted an old 19th century prison in Palencia, Spain, into a community haven called ‘Cultual Civic Center.’

A once dark and gloomy brick jail house is now a futuristic design community center where people can meet and host activities. The building doesn’t leave an eerie feel as the opulent design surrounds the vicinity with bright light; EXIT Architects installed large skylights that illuminate the building with natural lighting.

Old courtyards are modified into beautiful terraces that permit gardening and outdoor activities. The designers preserved the old brick walls that surround the building, intertwining it with a contemporary appeal that evokes a vintage and modern mash up.

The Cultural Civic Center allows folks in this city to gather in a space where architecture and history mix.
