AI-Created Gin Spirits

Circumstance Distillery Used Artificial Intelligence for Monker’s Garkel

Circumstance Distillery collaborated with technology scientists Tiny Giant and Rewrite Digital to create Ginette, a neural network that became the "brains" of the "world’s first gin using artificial intelligence." Ginette was trained to analyze thousands of botanical ingredients, recipes and gin names. The AI chose the name Monker’s Garkel and describes it as a "fragranced" gin.

Some of the key ingredients in Monker’s Garkel are juniper berries, angelica root, coriander seed, raspberry leaf, gooseberry, prune, zesty clementine zest and orange and marigold.

Even the label for Monker’s Garkel was developed in part by an automated algorithm, which drew from a selection of colors, fonts, textures and styles that were refined by local artist Tim Sutcliffe.
