At the upcoming Global Food Safety Conference in Tokyo, Japan, Bureau Veritas' 'Origin' is set to be introduced as "the world’s first traceability label to give consumers a complete end-to-end proof of a product’s journey."
The blockchain-based solution takes the form of a QR code that can be scanned to provide consumers with a complete overview of the product's journey.
As well as the appeal that the traceable label offers to consumers, Origin aims to provide businesses in the food industry with a cost-effective solution for controlling the supply chain, as well as managing product recalls in real-time. As Vincent Bourdil, Vice-President Food at Bureau Veritas describes: "Origin is a win-win solution not just for consumers, but also for retailers, suppliers, processors and manufacturers, as it adds value to the final product."
