Binhai Eco City is a Chinese-Singaporean project that aims to envision whether cities of the future can function as oases of sorts powered by renewable energy. Located on the outskirts of Tianjin in northern China, the development will be connected to another planned eco-friendly development in Beijing by a high-speed rail connection.
The Binhai Eco City Master Plan covers 0.2 square miles and has garnered international acclaim, having been shortlisted for the 2014 World Architecture Festival.
The design, conceived by the Holm Architecture Office, mimics an outstretched hand. Green areas are allowed to slide in between the 'fingers', making for interaction throughout the day and night. Direct access to green surroundings makes the Eco City Master Plan unique and gives its future inhabitants a healthy place in which to lead their lives.
