By definition, salsa refers to a spicy sauce made with chopped vegetables or fruit, although most consumers have become fairly familiar with tomato-based salsa products—at the Winter Fancy Food Show, Barnacle Foods introduced its unique take on salsa.
Barnacle Foods produces its salsas with a base of Alaskan kelp, which is enhanced with a variety of common salsa ingredients like garlic, peppers, vinegar and tomato, plus various spices and seasonings. The seaweed-based salsas are available in four varieties: the mild Original and Sea Verde, Campfire, which has a medium level of heat and at the hottest end of the spectrum, Bonfire, which packs a punch with African Bird Pepper (also known as peri peri), cayenne pepper and Ancho Pepper.
Alongside its line of salsas, Barnacle Foods also offers curried and dill Kelp Pickles.
