Since the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and the National Hockey League (NHL), began celebrations for Hockey Day in Canada in 2000, one of their features was a contest of the best backyard hockey rink. With the numerous hockey-crazy communities in Canada, there were no shortage of impressive candidates.
Bringing back the atmosphere of the sport's roots has been received well by players and fans alike, as pond-hockey tournaments and even one NHL games are making more appearances in the media.
