Cosplay Imitates Anime and Video Game Characters

Today we revisit Cosplay (or Cos-Play), which is short for "costume play" in Japan. An entire subculture centers around dressing up like anime and video game characters, or from live action television, fantasy movies, pop bands and much more.

Sometimes cosplay just means dressing up for fun in a costume. It is believed that the concept was created a long time ago but the actual act of dressing up in public is becoming more popular in recent years.

Nov Takahashi is credited with coining the actual 'cosplay' phrase, which has since been interpreted in a thousand variations.
