After the release of the live-action 'Ghost in the Shell' remake, anime has been growing in popularity around the world, and the 'Anime Architecture' exhibit shows off the worlds in those anime productions. The show, which is running at 'House of Illustration' in London, displays the vast and intricate architecture that composes the fictional cities and landscapes in anime films and television shows.
Anime Architecture includes stills from some of the most famous and beloved anime works, including 'Akira,' 'Patlabor: The Movie,' and 'Metropolis,' as well as the aforementioned Ghost in the Shell. There are over 100 images in the collections altogether, and these include finished watercolor drafts as well as technical drawings that are used to sketch out the landscapes.
According to Anime Architecture's curator, production designers in anime films are sometimes referred to as "film architects," showing the importance of the practice on filmic representation.
