Lush's Skin Guardian & Sun Companion are Safe, Effective & Cruelty-Free

The rise of skincare products with SPF is notable and Lush set out to defy category norms by introducing animal-free sunscreen formulations to meet growing consumer demand for ethical and sustainable beauty solutions. Sun Companion is a melon-scented sunscreen lotion with SPF 20 and Skin Guardian is a creamy SPF 15 facial sunscreen.

To create safe and effective sun care products without testing on animals, Lush relied on advanced in vitro tests conducted by animal-free lab XcellR8. "Testing the sunscreens on human cell models has given us data that is far more relevant for human exposures than animal testing data, meaning we can be confident that our suncare products are safe," says Helen Ambrosen, Lush formulator and co-founder.
