Elongated Pop Culture Cartoons

Andrea Rhodes Maintains her Authentic Style With Popular Characters

Andrea Rhodes does a fantastic job of creating original artwork through the brilliant application of her own distinct visual style towards widely recognizable characters. Artists often take pop culture characters as subject matter for their own authentic style; few do it well enough to distinguish themselves apart from the abundance of imitations and replicas.

Rhodes's impressive portfolio includes a wide range of characters from comic books, classic novels (Jane Austen) and popular stories (Robin Hood). Her characters are simultaneously pre-established figures and completely new entities. Often times Andrea Rhodes uses elongated body shapes, giving her illustrations a cartoony feel while still maintaining their serious composure.

A personal favorite of mine is the drawing of Alice talking to the Mad Hatter. The image is both bizarre and enticing.
