'Altergaze' is the name of a set of 3D-printed virtual reality goggles that work with a smartphone in order to deliver immersive simulated experiences. The viewer is extremely customizable and can be used as either a handheld or a headset device that can be adapted to suit both Apple and Android models.
Creator Liviu Berechet Antoni remarks that "Smartphones today have everything a VR headset needs: a high-quality display, a powerful processor and a gyroscope." To make the most of these existing smartphone features, these VR goggles were launched as a cost-effective and mobile way to provide entertainment on the go, alongside the Altergaze Controller app.
By the end of the successful Altergaze Kickstarter campaign, over 450 backers rallied to contribute a total of £31,988 to push the development of the project further.
